From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story of secondhand hearts and second chances…
It all started with a mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress.
I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old.”
Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true.
The name embossed on the blue stationery: Reed Eastwood, obviously the most romantic man who ever lived. I also discovered he’s the most gorgeous. If only my true-love fantasies had stopped there. Because I’ve since found out something else about Mr. Starry-Eyed.
He’s arrogant, cynical, and demanding. I should know. Thanks to a twist of fate, he’s my new boss. But that’s not going to stop me from discovering the story behind his last love letter. A love letter that did not result in a happily ever after.
But that story is nothing compared to the one unfolding between us. It’s getting hotter, sweeter, and more surprising than anything I could have imagined.
But I have no idea how this one is going to end…

I wouldn’t have been caught dead in here a year ago. Don’t take that the wrong way-I’m not a snob.
I’ve only read a couple of books by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward, yet I’ve never read any of their dual books. I was very curious to see how these two authors’ writing style would combine to make one complete story. So when Hate Notes was brought to my attention, I was instantly curious and after a quick read of the synopsis it was an automatic add to my TBR. Getting asked to be part of the blog tour was definitely an added bonus! While I was excited to read Hate Notes I also found myself to be a little bit nervous because the synopsis screams secondhand embarrassment o.O
Hate Notes was indeed an entertaining read! Right off the bat I knew I would love Charlotte’s character. She was a breathe of fresh air to be honest, while Charlotte was Blonde with blue eyes, she wasn’t your typical heroine that’s described in every romance book (cue me rolling my eyes). Charlotte was optimistic, funny, eccentric, with a side of crazy (according to Reed). I loved her outlook on life, it seemed no matter how many times life dealt her a shitty card, or how many times someone would say mean/insulting things to her, she always tried to look at it from a different point of view.
Now Mr. Reed Eastwood, dear lord this man takes dark and brooding to a whole other level. He’s an ass right from the start and I loved how Charlotte didn’t back down and spoke her mind to him, even if it was typed in the air (honestly, Charlottes’ air typing absolutely killed me LOL) ! Reed had his heart broken and any time Charlotte seemed to be asking anything on a personal level or anything that reminded him of the old Reed, he was quick to put his walls up around her. I liked how quickly Charlotte was able to pick up on Reed putting up walls and that not all of his frustration was always intended to hurt her. Dark and brooding male leads aren’t always an automatic swoon for me, but with Reed it was an automatic swoon
The chemistry between these two? WOOOO! Both of them seemed to flick a switch in each other whenever they were near one another, which at times had me laughing at all the tense and early sexual frustration between them. While it was clear that these two had feelings for one another, both were uncertain and scared to cross that line due to be hurt in the past. I liked that they didn’t imminently jump each other during there first couple of encounters, their relationship was almost a slow burn in the sense that you knew it would happen but it was a matter of when.
While I did enjoy Hate Notes I couldn’t help but feel like this story was not complete. I don’t want to spoil anything but the ending didn’t read like a full ending, and slightly felt like it was rushed through. I’m a stickler for things not being wrapped up fully, because as I reader I feel like if an author mentions something in their books that causing any conflict, small or big, should be fully addressed by the end and I didn’t get that fully with Hate Notes nor did it feel like somethings things were resolved or mention in a realistic manner.
Secondly, this book is titled Hate Notes but I felt like as readers we really didn’t get any hate notes? I would have loved if there were more moments when Reed would actually leave Charlotte “hate notes” on his blue stationary so that it would go with the title more.
Lastly, this isn’t really a dislike but more of a was it needed. There were a couple of moments when Charlotte would say things and I couldn’t help but think yell “WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU SAY THAT?!” out loud to my book lol.
“Well…” I sat back in my chair and gestured to the outfit I wore. “You know I’m naked under here. But that doesn’t mean I have to show you my breasts.”
See? Cue secondhand embarrassment. Like of all analogies that’s what came out of her mouth?! LOL
“I think it’s better to spend years treasuring a memory that might hurt sometimes than to never make one at all.”
Would I recommend Hate Notes?
